FAQs are a standard format for answering reader questions. You'll often see them at the bottom of product pages or customer support pages addressing customer concerns and answering common questions about the product or service. But what if I told you that you can use FAQs to increase traffic to any web page? According to Google, FAQ Schema can be used on any page that contains a list of questions and answers on any particular topic. That means FAQ Schema doesn’t have to be reserved only for company FAQ pages; you can create a “frequently asked questions” resource on any topic and use the Schema to indicate that the content is structured as an FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions Rich Results are an underutilized SEO tactic that is extremely easy to implement, works for any web page on your site, and will ultimately increase your organic traffic while providing genuine value to your readers. Continue reading to learn how you can implement this tactic and level up your marketing game by adding another thing to your SEO toolkit.

Also, adding high-quality question-and-answer sections — and their corresponding schema markup — to your website is now possible in 3 simple steps with Huckabuy. Learn the process here.

What are FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions are a list of common questions and corresponding answers about a given topic. FAQs have many business benefits. They can save hours worth of sales and customer support communications and help buyers make an informed decision. Most importantly, effective use of Q&A can improve the user’s experience on your site and, in turn, improve your conversion rates.

Addressing customer concerns is a common use case for FAQ sections. For example, The Knot included an FAQ section at the bottom of their page about Wedding Websites (a product they offer) to help answer common questions their target customer might have about wedding websites.

Of course, FAQs are really valuable here, but they don’t need to be limited to products and customer questions. FAQs can be added to almost any web page to answer common questions, or anticipated questions, about the information on the page.

For example, if you write an informational article about Goldendoodles then you could add common questions related to the dog breed in a section at the bottom of the page (see example below)

Q: Are Goldendoodles hypoallergenic?

A: All dogs carry some degree of allergens, but with a non-shedding coat, Goldendoodles are often referred to as hypoallergenic.

Frequently Asked Questions Help Users

Having a section at the bottom of an informational page like this provides two primary benefits:

  1. It helps your audience. A reader can quickly skim the article and find a quick answer to their question.
  2. It benefits your SEO. By adding an FAQ section to this page, your giving yourself the opportunity for your page to show up with an FAQ rich result. This takes up more real estate on the Search Engine Results Page (see example below) and helps showcase the information on your web page — enticing more users to click.

To reference our previous example, The Knot's Wedding Website FAQs can be viewed right from the Google SERPs. Not only can their target customers get more information right from Google Search, but it allows them to stand out and take up more space on the SERP. As you'll see below, The Knot is taking up twice as much space on the SERP as one of their competitors, Wedding Wire.

The Knot is able to capture an FAQ rich snippet in Google Search because they have provided the FAQ content on their page and they have marked that content up with FAQSchema using structured data markup. This markup is added on the backend of the page, within the code.
